We’re hiring a Senior Small Works Engineer (Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting) to join our team at Fire Safe Services, covering the Midlands region. You will be responsible for delivering small works projects including the installation, modification, and commissioning of fire alarm and emergency lighting systems across a range of sites. Your role will be key in ensuring high-quality, compliant fire protection solutions are delivered efficiently and professionally.

This is a mobile role requiring a flexible and proactive approach, with occasional travel beyond the Midlands. You’ll be supported with a company van, tools, laptop, and phone, along with ongoing training and development opportunities to support your career progression.

Here’s a look at some of the things you’ll be doing:

  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships, ensuring expectations are met or exceeded, and supporting project planning activities including quoting, material procurement, labour allocation, and risk assessments
  • Ensure all works comply with industry standards (including BS 5839 Part 1), as well as health & safety regulations and company procedures
  • Monitor project progress and quality through site visits, documentation reviews, and proactive problem-solving to ensure successful delivery
  • Support and mentor junior engineers to develop their technical skills and performance, while completing and managing all relevant documentation including electronic job sheets, commissioning records, and client sign-off

Can you show experience in some of these areas:

  • 3–5 years’ experience working with fire alarm systems, including installation, upgrades, and commissioning across commercial, industrial, or residential environments, along with relevant qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Fire Alarm Systems or Electrical Installation and BS 7671 (17th/18th Edition)
  • Experience working with fire alarm systems such as Gent, Advanced, Kentec, Morley, or C-Tec, and confident with both addressable and conventional systems, with a strong understanding of BS 5839 Part 1 and the ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and system designs
  • Confident communicator with strong problem-solving skills, capable of working independently or as part of a team while effectively managing deadlines
  • Full UK driving licence and relevant site certifications such as CSCS/ECS, with IPAF, PASMA, or SSSTS/SMSTS being advantageous
