At Fire Safe Services, we’re recruiting a Senior Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team. This role covers the servicing, maintenance, fault-finding, and repair of addressable and conventional fire alarm systems across a wide range of sites. You’ll act as a senior technical point of contact on site, providing leadership and mentoring junior engineers while delivering exceptional customer service. You’ll also take part in the out-of-hours on-call rota, supporting our 24/7 service commitments. The role is primarily based across the West Midlands, with occasional travel to surrounding areas.

Here’s a look at some of the things you’ll be doing:
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance, servicing, fault diagnosis, repairs, full system testing, and cause & effect verification on addressable and conventional fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with BS 5839 and integration with life safety systems including sprinklers, emergency lighting, and access control.
- Respond to emergency call-outs as part of the on-call rota, delivering effective fault resolution while maintaining excellent customer service and accurately completing service reports, commissioning certificates, and compliance documentation.
- Provide technical leadership on site by mentoring junior engineers, promoting best practice, supporting system upgrades, remedial works, audits, quotations, and ensuring work is completed safely and to the highest standards.
- Liaise with clients, site managers, and contractors to manage service expectations, resolve technical issues, and ensure all work complies with fire safety legislation, health & safety requirements, and company procedures.
Can you show experience in some of these areas:
- At least 5 years' experience servicing, fault-finding, repairing, and commissioning addressable and conventional fire alarm systems, with strong knowledge of BS 5839, cause & effect programming, loop testing, panel configuration, and leading systems such as Gent, Notifier, Advanced, Kentec, Apollo, and Hochiki.
- FIA Units 1–5 (or equivalent) with strong technical problem-solving skills, the ability to work independently on complex or high-profile sites, and confidence mentoring junior engineers while representing the company professionally.
- Experience working with integrated life safety systems such as fire suppression, emergency lighting, access control, or BMS, together with manufacturer training and knowledge of commissioning software and laptop diagnostics would be advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence required with flexibility to travel across the Midlands and surrounding areas, willingness to participate in the on-call rota, and ECS, CSCS, IPAF, PASMA, SSSTS, or similar health & safety qualifications considered advantageous.
