Our client is a global financial institution dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service while adhering to the highest standards of regulatory compliance. The role is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and monitoring of the Compliance and Financial Crime frameworks, acting as the deputy for MLRO responsibilities.
Deputy Money Laundering Reporting Officer (DMLRO) Responsibilities:
- Assist the MLRO in managing the Branch’s financial crime and anti-money laundering (AML) obligations.
- Assist in the monitoring and review of transactions for potential money laundering or terrorist financing activities, including sanctions and PEP screening processes.
- Respond to escalations regarding suspicious transactions and sanctions screening.
- Provide leadership within the financial crime function, influences and challenges stakeholders on AML, CTF and sanctions matters.
- Assist in filing suspicious activity reports (SARs) with the National Crime Agency (NCA) in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Support the MLRO in responding to internal reports of suspicious transactions.
- Ensure the Branch’s sanctions compliance with the relevant UK regulators and authorities, including HM Treasury, the EU, and the UN.
- Assist in conducting sanctions searches and payment screening escalations.
- Provide training and awareness for staff on AML and compliance policies and regulations.
- Make annual reports to senior management on AML and compliance matters.
Senior Compliance Officer Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head of Compliance and Risk in ensuring that the compliance function remains up to date with FCA, PRA, JMLSG, UK Money Laundering Regulations, and other applicable standards.
- Provide leadership within the Compliance and Risk function by supporting team members, promoting knowledge sharing, and reinforcing a strong compliance culture.
- Execute the Compliance Monitoring Programme (CMP) according to the schedule.
- Prepare reports for management on the status of compliance and financial crime, as well as other ad hoc matters.
- Promote a culture of compliance within the Branch and provide the Branch Committees with updated information to aid in drafting internal policies in line with UK law and best practices.
- Serve as Secretary to the Compliance and Risk Committee.
- Support the preparation of various reports for the Branch’s use.
- Review policies and procedures regularly to ensure they are up-to-date.
- Liaise with auditors during internal audits, including collecting documentation and addressing findings.
- Liaise with the Head of Compliance to manage responses to regulatory enquiries.
- Influence and challenge stakeholders effectively, ensuring that compliance and financial crime considerations are reflected in business activities and decisions.
Experience Required:
- Must have Banking products – wholesale banking, trade finance, corporate banking.
- Candidate must have AML/DMLRO experience and ideally some generalist Compliance experience too.
- Strong knowledge of sanctions regimes, including OFSI (UK), OFAC (US), EU sanctions, and UN Security Council measures.
- Experience overseeing sanctions screening processes and investigating sanctions alerts.
- Understanding of sector specific sanctions risks relevant to wholesale, trade finance, and corporate banking.
- Banking products – wholesale, trade finance, corporate banking.
- Transaction monitoring and financial crime systems.
- Proficient in Excel (data analysis, dashboards), PowerPoint (concise MI packs, regulatory presentations).
