An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Sales Engineer / Manager to join a well-established and growing engineering manufacturer supplying high-integrity forged and precision machined components into some of the world's most demanding industries.
This is a key commercial role where you'll take ownership of the complete tendering process, converting complex technical enquiries into commercially competitive proposals.
Working closely with engineering, production, procurement and quality teams, you'll play a vital role in securing high-value projects across critical industrial sectors.
You will assess customer specifications, develop manufacturing solutions, obtain supplier quotations, estimate manufacturing costs and prepare high-quality proposals that meet both technical and commercial requirements.

Key Responsibilities Tender & Proposal Management
- Prepare technical and commercial quotations from enquiry through to submission.
- Review customer specifications, engineering drawings and applicable industry standards.
- Develop manufacturing routes using internal capabilities and approved supply chain partners.
- Build detailed cost models covering materials, forging, machining, welding, coatings, testing, inspection, logistics and project management.
- Produce professional technical and commercial proposals.
- Negotiate technical and commercial aspects with customers where required. Technical Engineering Evaluate manufacturing feasibility for components involving:
- Open and closed-die forgings
- Precision CNC machining
- Fabrication and welding
- Heat treatment
- Non-destructive testing (NDT)
- Surface treatment and coatings
- Final inspection and certification You'll also provide technical guidance throughout the quotation process, identify manufacturing risks and ensure customer requirements are fully understood and achieved.
Supply Chain Management Work closely with approved manufacturing partners.
Obtain and evaluate supplier quotations.
Identify alternative manufacturing routes to improve competitiveness.
Develop strong supplier relationships.
Commercial Responsibilities Deliver quotations within agreed timescales.
Maximise quotation conversion while maintaining target margins.
Support business development activities with both new and existing customers.
Attend customer meetings and technical reviews.
Assist with contract negotiations.
Maintain accurate quotation records and sales pipeline reporting.
Support strategic growth initiatives.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Mechanical Engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent experience).
- Experience preparing complex engineering quotations.
- Strong commercial awareness.
- Experience costing manufactured components.
- Excellent engineering drawing interpretation skills.
- Good understanding of machining and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of forged products and engineered components.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and technical documentation.
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills. Desirable Experience Knowledge of one or more of the following would be advantageous:
- ASME, API and ISO standards
- PED and pressure equipment regulations
- Oil & Gas EPC projects
