We are currently recruiting for an Health and Safety Manager to join an expanding Engineering client based in Bradford.

This is a permanent position that has been created due to continued company growth.

Hours – Monday – Friday 8.30 AM – 5 PM (Flexible start times available)

Candidates must have strong people skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of staff and look to truly educate staff in relation to HSE process.

Candidates will have a demonstrable background working within a similar role with exposure to an engineering environment and an understanding and appreciation for risk and hazards within this type of working environment.

Working knowledge of current HSE standards (ISO 45001 and 14001) is required.

  • Role Description
  • Coordinate and maintain the company’s Health & Safety Management System.
  • Act as the primary internal contact for Health & Safety matters.
  • Work closely with the company’s retained Health & Safety consultants to develop and maintain policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Assist in the preparation of RAMS, review and standardise Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for installation, maintenance and engineering activities.
  • Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the business.
  • Provide practical Health & Safety advice and support to engineers, supervisors and project managers.
  • Carry out regular site inspections and workplace audits.
  • Monitor corrective actions arising from audits and inspections.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Prepare toolbox talks, safety alerts and health & safety communications.
  • Maintain Health & Safety records, training matrices, competency records and PPE registers.
  • Coordinate statutory inspections and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
  • Monitor changes in Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice, implementing updates where required.
  • CDM Responsibilities
  • Support compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
  • Assist Project Managers in fulfilling contractor duties under CDM.
  • Prepare and review Construction Phase Plans where required.
  • Coordinate project Health & Safety documentation before works commence.
  • Ensure Pre-Construction Information, site documentation and Health & Safety Files are maintained where applicable.
  • Liaise with clients, Principal Contractors and designers to ensure Health & Safety information is communicated effectively throughout projects.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong people skills and the ability to communicate across all levels of staff, educating staff in relation to HSE processes.
  • Demonstrable background working within a similar HSE role in an engineering environment with an understanding and appreciation for risk and hazards.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate AND/OR IOSH qualified with knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing RAMS.
  • Knowledge of DSEAR, COSHH, Working at Height and Confined Space Regulations.
  • Ability to coach, train and engage employees.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook literate.
  • Excellent communication skills.
