This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated individual who takes pride in maintaining safe, secure, and well‑presented school premises. We are looking for a hands‑on and dependable professional with previous caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or site management experience who can contribute to the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the school.
Responsibilities
- Opening and closing the school site, ensuring buildings are secure at all times.
- Carrying out routine site inspections and health & safety checks.
- Performing minor repairs, maintenance, decorating, and general DIY tasks.
- Conducting weekly fire alarm tests and maintaining accurate records.
- Monitoring emergency exits, lighting, heating, and water systems.
- Supporting compliance with health & safety, safeguarding, and site security procedures.
- Ensuring the school grounds, classrooms, communal areas, and external spaces are clean, safe, and well‑maintained.
- Coordinating deliveries and distributing items to the appropriate departments.
- Liaising with contractors and supervising works carried out on site.
- Assisting with room setups for assemblies, events, examinations, and school functions.
- Monitoring stock levels and ordering maintenance and cleaning supplies when required.
- Reporting maintenance issues and supporting planned preventative maintenance activities.
- Supporting the wider school team to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for pupils and staff.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Supervisor, Facilities Assistant, Premises Officer, or similar role.
- Good practical maintenance and DIY skills.
- Knowledge of health & safety procedures and site compliance.
- Experience carrying out fire alarm checks and routine building inspections.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive and professional approach to work.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to pay for a new DBS).
