About the Role
Complete Classroom Services is seeking a reliable, practical, and experienced School Caretaker to support the day-to-day running and maintenance of a school site in Slough, SL2. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to maintain a safe, secure, clean, and well-presented school environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role is ideal for someone with a hands-on approach who has experience carrying out minor repairs, general maintenance, site inspections, and security duties. The position is offered on a temporary-to-permanent basis, providing the opportunity for the right candidate to secure a permanent position within the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out daily site checks and identify any maintenance or safety issues.
- Undertake minor repairs and general maintenance across the school premises.
- Carry out basic DIY tasks, including minor plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and repairs.
- Check doors, windows, gates, fencing, and other areas of the site to ensure they remain secure.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from school staff.
- Assist with the opening and closing of the school site.
- Maintain classrooms, communal areas, corridors, playgrounds, and external areas to a good standard.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and classroom resources when required.
- Support contractors and external maintenance teams attending the school.
- Report larger repairs, defects, and health and safety concerns to the appropriate member of staff.
- Assist with routine health and safety and site inspections.
- Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
- Maintain basic maintenance records and report completed works.
- Follow all school safeguarding, health and safety, security, and site procedures.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Caretaker, Maintenance Operative, Site Assistant, or Facilities Assistant.
- Practical experience of general building maintenance and minor repairs.
- Good DIY skills and the ability to carry out basic maintenance tasks.
- A full UK driving licence – essential.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and manage day-to-day tasks effectively.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work.
- Basic IT skills for communication and maintenance records.
- A strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working within a school or educational environment.
- Experience with basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, or other practical trade tasks.
- Knowledge of school safeguarding and site security procedures.
- Experience supporting contractors and external maintenance teams.
