About the Role
Complete Classroom Services is looking for a reliable, hardworking and proactive School Caretaker to join one of the schools we support in Oldham (OL9).
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical and self-motivated individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, clean and welcoming school environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
The successful candidate will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the school premises, ensuring the site is well maintained, secure and ready for learning, activities and community use.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the security, safety, cleanliness and general condition of the school site.
- Carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs, basic decorating and general caretaking duties.
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings, grounds and facilities, reporting defects and maintenance issues promptly.
- Ensure classrooms, meeting rooms and other areas are appropriately set up for lessons, meetings and school events.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment and other items around the school when required.
- Monitor contractors and visitors working on site, ensuring appropriate health and safety procedures are followed.
- Carry out routine site checks and basic testing of relevant safety equipment, reporting faults where necessary.
- Respond promptly to maintenance issues, emergencies, security concerns, leaks, damage and other problems affecting the school premises.
- Keep external areas, entrances, pathways, playgrounds and other communal areas safe, clean and free from hazards.
- Assist with opening and securing the school premises in accordance with school procedures.
- Maintain appropriate records of maintenance tasks, inspections and health and safety checks.
- Report significant repairs or specialist maintenance requirements to the appropriate person.
- Support the school with general site duties and other reasonable caretaking responsibilities.
- Follow all school health and safety, safeguarding and security procedures.
- The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will ideally have
- Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Assistant, Facilities Assistant, Caretaker, Premises Assistant or in a similar role.
- Good practical and DIY skills, including basic plumbing, painting, carpentry and minor repairs.
- A good understanding of health and safety procedures.
- The ability to identify and report maintenance issues and potential hazards.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- The ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A reliable, flexible and proactive approach to work.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a school team.
- Basic IT skills are desirable.
- Clean DBS on the update service
