About the Role

We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and hardworking School Caretaker to join our site team at a friendly and welcoming school in Southwest London. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the school premises are safe, secure, clean, and well maintained at all times. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous caretaking, maintenance, or facilities experience who enjoys working in a school environment and takes pride in maintaining high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Opening and closing the school premises daily
  • Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs
  • Ensuring the security and safety of the school buildings and grounds
  • Monitoring heating, lighting, and alarm systems
  • Setting up rooms and halls for assemblies, meetings, and events
  • Liaising with contractors and supervising site visitors where required
  • Conducting health & safety checks and reporting hazards
  • Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness of external areas
  • Supporting emergency procedures and responding to site issues promptly
  • Assisting with deliveries and moving equipment/furniture as needed

Requirements

  • Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or a similar role
  • Basic DIY and repair skills
  • Good understanding of health & safety procedures
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible attitude
  • Enhanced DBS check required (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Experience working within a school or educational setting
  • Knowledge of COSHH and safeguarding procedures
