We are looking for a passionate Assistant Nursery Deputy – Baby Unit Lead to join our warm, welcoming, and nurturing nursery. About the role

Abacus Day Nursery, part of the Complete Childcare Group, is looking for a compassionate, bold, and reflective leader to join our close-knit management team as Assistant Nursery Deputy and Baby Unit Lead. This is a wonderful opportunity for an experienced early years practitioner who is ready to step into senior leadership — someone who loves working with the very youngest children and is passionate about making every day extraordinary for them.

You will sit within a supportive four-person leadership team alongside the Nursery Manager, Deputy, and third-in-charge, reporting directly to the Nursery Manager. You'll play a key role in the smooth running of the setting, stepping up to cover managerial responsibilities when needed.

What you'll do

  • Lead either our big nest or little nest Baby Unit, alongside another baby room lead, with warmth and expertise
  • Support and inspire practitioners day to day
  • Oversee planning, observation and assessment
  • Manage safeguarding and health & safety
  • Build strong partnerships with parents
  • Liaise with outside agencies and specialists
  • Conduct supervisions and appraisals

About you

  • Minimum Level 3 qualified in childcare
  • 3+ years post‑qualifying experience in day care
  • Strong knowledge of EYFS and Development Matters
  • Experience in a senior or leadership position
  • Excellent communication with children and families
  • Calm, organised, and proactive approach
  • Committed to reflective, inclusive practice
