Derby County are seeking to recruit a First Team Performance Analyst (Tactical) to join the Performance Analysis department at Moor Farm Training Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for playing a key role in delivering high‑quality insights that enhance the club’s performance analysis processes and support informed decision‑making across the First Team environment. The role will take primary responsibility for post‑match analysis, producing detailed evaluations of team performance through video, data and key performance indicators. They will also support pre‑match preparation by assisting with opposition analysis and contributing to game‑plan development, while providing wider support to the Performance Analysis team as required.
Key Role Responsibilities- Take ownership of the post‑match analysis process, using video, data and KPIs to produce high‑quality reports that identify tactical trends and inform future strategy.
- Deliver clear post‑match insights through video, telestration and presentation formats when required.
- Support the delivery of opposition analysis in a rotational manner alongside the Lead First Team Analyst and coaching staff, helping to profile opponents and inform tactical preparation in line with the club’s game model, whilst also playing a key role in pre‑match report creation.
- Monitor wider tactical trends across the league, collecting and managing bespoke data for the analysis department to aid insights.
- Analyse global best‑practice and emerging tactical trends to inform and support pre‑match preparation.
- Present tactical insights using video and telestration tools to support game‑plan creation.
- Assist with producing training‑ground analysis content, including telestrated clips that reinforce tactical messages.
- Prepare and deliver analysis presentations and session content for coaching meetings when required.
- Attend and support First Team fixtures, contributing to matchday analysis operations.
- Undertake live coding and real‑time feedback workflows to support in‑game decision‑making.
- Assist with technical matchday setup, ensuring all hardware, software and data feeds operate reliably.
- Contribute to the continual development of analysis workflows and database management, adopting best practices and supporting innovation within the department.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date understanding of new technologies, methodologies and trends to drive innovation.
- Support wider First Team performance analysis projects, contributing to departmental objectives as directed by the Lead First Team Analyst.
- To be responsible for the health, safety and welfare of customers and colleagues, complying with health and safety guidance and policy.
- Continuously work to maintain, embed and improve the club’s safeguarding provision, ensuring the highest standards for safeguarding children and adults at risk.
- To uphold and promote organisational policies and procedures, promoting those specifically applicable to this area of work and also including equality, diversity and inclusion.
- To present and promote an appropriate public image in representing the organisation.
- To undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required commensurate with the post.
- Minimum 2 years’ full‑time experience in a performance analysis role within a professional football environment.
- Experience contributing to live matchday analysis workflows.
- Experience within a Championship or Premier League First Team environment (desirable).
- Experience with multi‑angle training capture, e.g., drone, IP cameras (desirable).
- Experience using data analysis or visualisation tools, e.g., R, Python, Power BI, Tableau (desirable).
- Strong proficiency with Hudl Sportscode, Wyscout and MatchTracker for coding and pre/post‑match workflows.
- Strong proficiency with Tactic Pro (and/or Hudl Studio).
- Experience interpreting football data, such as StatsBomb or StatsPerform.
- Strong proficiency in MacOS and presentation software (Keynote, PowerPoint).
- Strong tactical understanding of the game and its principles of play.
- Ability to manage file structures, databases and shared resources efficiently.
- Understanding of performance KPIs and the ability to apply them in analysis.
- Ability to integrate video, data and tactical insights into clear outputs.

- MSc in Performance Analysis, Sports Science or a related discipline.
- UEFA C Licence or higher.
- Certified training or professional development in football performance analysis, data analytics, video analysis, or related specialist areas (e.g., APFA, PFSA, or national/international association courses).
Salary is competitive, dependent on experience. This is a full‑time role, and due to the demands of professional football, there is a requirement for weekend and evening work, as well as regular national travel.
