Join our Engineering Team at The Compleat Food Group! We have a fantastic opportunity for a Shift Engineer to join our site in Ebbw Vale. We're looking for a proactive and skilled Shift Engineer to join our team, reporting directly to the Lead Hand, Engineering Supervisor, or Engineering Manager.
In this role, you'll play a key part in supporting all site engineering and maintenance needs, ensuring smooth and efficient production through the upkeep of equipment, strong technical performance, and adherence to both regulatory and company standards. You'll work closely with the engineering team to minimise downtime, optimise machinery performance, and support the ongoing operation of our Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) system. A focus on continuous improvement will be essential, as you help enhance processes and procedures across the site.
Strong communication skills are a must - you'll be engaging with both internal teams and external partners, building effective working relationships to influence, collaborate, and drive results. Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of expertise in relation to planned and reactive maintenance.
- Complete required documentation and services reports as required.
- Any other ad-hoc duties as required by the Lead Hand/Engineering Supervisor/Engineering Manager.
- Using work methods and practices that comply with legislative, moral and European directive requirements.
- Ensure input of data on availability of systems to support the Engineering Department in effectively managing inventory, minimise working capital and control purchasing.
- Ensure compliance to Health & Safety and environment legislation and adapt safe working practices at all times.
- Provide technical advice to problem solving and innovative solutions.
- Work in partnership with the Engineering Department to ensure that the productive capability of the plant is optimised and improved for the needs of the business.
- Follow the set standards and procedures that are in place that govern all engineering activities on site including in particular; all aspects of new asset realisation, safe working practices and management of contractors.
- Ensure that a culture of safety is promoted, working in partnership with the site Health, Safety.
Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- Demonstrate your multi-skilled engineering expertise through time served experience and/or qualifications.
- A time served engineer with BTEC Level 3 qualification is essential in mechanical or electrical engineering.
- HNC or HND qualification in an Engineering discipline - desirable.
- Good knowledge of technical Health & Safety requirements.
- Previous experience within a similar role and within a food manufacturing environment is desirable.
- Excellent trouble-shooter with the ability to resolve problems effectively, and within a cost-effective manner / within budget.
- Excellent communication skills with demonstrable record of influencing at all levels within an organisation.
- Confident decision maker who understands the commercial implications of decisions.
- Effective team player.
- Proven track record of delivering performance improvements.
- HACCP level 3 - desirable.
- Fully computer literate and proficient.
