Location: Colnbrook
Salary: £47,000 per annum – negotiable depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00 (30-minute lunch break)
Contract: Full-time, permanent (37.5 hours per week)
Our client, a well-established international logistics and transport service provider with a strong global network, is seeking an experienced Import Customs Manager to join their team based in Colnbrook.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and proactive individual to take ownership of the import customs function and lead a dedicated team. The successful candidate will bring strong operational knowledge of UK import customs procedures along with experience in managing people and processes within a fast-paced logistics environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop a team of four import and customs staff, including appraisals, holiday and absence
- Act as the main point of contact for all customs-related queries from customers, authorities and internal departments
- Process customs clearance entries (CDS) for courier and cargo import shipments across multiple UK airports (LHR, EDI and GLA)
- Create jobs and complete billing using Boxtop, manage CSDs and maintain knowledge of known cargo and SPX procedures
- Perform Border Import (BI) functions to the client\’s ETSF facility including acceptance and release
- Manage the internal customs system (Customs Central) integrated with ASM Sequoia
- Keep up to date with changes to customs legislation, tariffs and procedures, and update the team accordingly
- Ensure correct classification of goods, valuation and origin declarations
- Review and improve processes to ensure compliance, accuracy and efficiency
- Ensure timely payment of all HMRC duties and taxes and correct billing and collection from customers
- Reconcile Deferment and FAS accounts on a monthly basis
- Handle both low-value bulk clearance (BIRDS) and high-value consignments
- Maintain effective communication with operations and finance teams
Required Experience And Skills
- Previous management and leadership experience within customs or freight forwarding
- Strong understanding of UK customs procedures and HMRC compliance requirements
- Previous experience in courier imports
- Proficient in Descartes (e-Customs), ASM Sequoia, CDS and CNS/CHIEF systems
- Experience with low-value bulk clearance (BIRDS) and ETSF procedures
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail and a results-focused approach
- Able to work independently and as part of a team with a flexible and positive attitude
- Strong administrative and multi-tasking abilities with the capacity to meet deadlines under pressure
Desirable
- Experience in end-to-end export customs clearance
- Familiarity with MOU and AEO processes
