We are seeking an experienced interim fundraising professional to provide practical, hands-on support across our Circle of Compassion mid-level giving programme, helping us maintain excellent stewardship and engagement with existing supporters during a busy period. Interim Mid-Level Giving & Donor Stewardship Manager, Freelance/Consultant
Role type: Interim freelance/consultancy assignment, approximately 2 to 3 days per week
Duration: Initial three-month assignment, or until the permanent postholder is in place
Location: Hybrid/flexible. Ideally, you will be able to work from our Godalming, Surrey HQ approximately one day per week, or attend regularly as needed.
Fee: Please include your proposed day rate or fee structure when applying
About the role
We are looking for an experienced fundraising professional who can quickly step in and provide practical support across our mid-level giving programme, the Circle of Compassion, with some additional support for our Major Donor programme where capacity allows.
This is a hands-on interim assignment rather than a strategic consultancy brief, where you will work closely with colleagues across Global Philanthropy to ensure existing supporters continue to receive timely, thoughtful and engaging stewardship, while helping the team keep on top of new and upcoming donor opportunities, communications and renewals.
Depending on the agreed scope and priorities, the assignment may include:
- Circle donor stewardship - Provide practical stewardship support for existing Circle of Compassion donors, ensuring appropriate touchpoints, updates and follow-up activity are progressed.
- Opportunity monitoring and follow-up- Help ensure new high-value opportunities are identified, qualified and followed up promptly, working within agreed Philanthropy and Individual Giving ways of working.
- Donor communications - Draft engaging one-to-many communications and regular updates for Circle supporters, including the e-newsletter and other stewardship communications.
- Seasonal stewardship - Support upcoming activity including Impact Report follow-up, Christmas communications, webinars and other supporter touchpoints.
- Circle renewals and opportunities - Support the team with remaining Circle opportunities and renewals, particularly within the UK.
- New donor stewardship- Help strengthen communications following a supporter’s first Circle-level donation, ensuring new donors receive a warm and engaging introduction to the programme.
- Events and engagement - Proactively engage appropriate supporters around relevant webinars, events and other stewardship opportunities.
- Prospect follow-up - Where required, support follow-up activity arising from wealth screening and reviews of potential Circle prospects.
- Major Donor support - Provide additional stewardship support, particularly for more transactional donors who prefer written reports and updates rather than meetings.
About you
You will need to be an experienced mid-level, major donor or high-value fundraising professional who is comfortable stepping into an established programme and getting things moving quickly.
We are particularly interested in consultants who can bring:
- Experience in mid-level, major donor, philanthropy or high-value fundraising.
- Strong experience of donor stewardship and relationship management.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create warm, engaging and appropriately tailored donor communications.
- The ability to manage multiple communications, opportunities and follow-ups while maintaining close attention to detail.
- A proactive approach, spotting where action or follow-up is needed and progressing it promptly.
- Confidence working collaboratively with fundraising colleagues and established processes.
- Experience using a CRM system such as Salesforce to maintain accurate donor information and activity.
- A genuine connection with Compassion’s mission and the ability to communicate our impact clearly.
If you don’t meet every requirement but believe you could thrive in this role, we encourage you to apply.
Why join us
