Overview: Compass Associates is working with National Care Group to recruit a Regional Operations Manager for the North East. The organisation delivers support to adults across supported living and residential settings, with a focus on learning disabilities, autism, mental health, and elderly and dementia care. The region is well-established, with a long-serving team of Registered Managers and further service growth planned. The organisation offers genuine development opportunities, including funded qualifications and the scope to move across operations, quality, and people functions.
The Candidate: The Regional Operations Manager will hold full operational responsibility across County Durham and North Yorkshire, leading Registered Managers across two large supported living services and a 42-bed residential service covering elderly, dementia, and mental health care. This is an experienced team that does not need developing. They need clear direction, firm boundaries, and someone who identifies problems before they surface. The team responds to straight talking. A fluffy, development-led management style will not work here. Analytical strength is essential. One Registered Manager in particular requires close oversight and will not always flag when things are going wrong. You must be confident reading dashboards, running audits, and spotting risk patterns early. Commercial awareness is equally important. Occupancy, bed fill, and financial performance sit within this remit. Candidates focused solely on care delivery without any commercial awareness will not be considered. The client will consider candidates stepping up from multi-site management, provided they are driven, energetic, and genuinely motivated to make an impact. Backgrounds across supported living, residential, and domiciliary care are all welcomed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management: Lead Registered Managers across supported living and residential services. Maintain visible regional presence and hold performance to account clearly and directly.
- Quality and Compliance: Lead audits, monitor data systems, and identify risk early. Support services through inspection activity. CQC readiness is a baseline expectation.
- Stakeholder and Commissioner Engagement: Build relationships with local authorities, commissioners, and housing partners. Support new service mobilisation as the portfolio grows.
- Financial and Operational Oversight: Manage budgets, KPIs, occupancy, and financial performance in partnership with the Regional Director.
Essential Requirements:
- Proven multi-site operational management experience in adult social care.
- Strong experience managing Registered Managers and holding performance to account.
- Analytical approach to quality and compliance with extensive audit experience.
- Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and KPIs. In-depth knowledge of CQC legislation.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Must already be based within commutable distance of Durham or Sunderland.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience across supported living, residential, and domiciliary care settings.
- Experience supporting new service openings.
Salary and Benefits:
- Salary of £57,680 per annum
- £3,000 car allowance
- 33 days annual leave inclusive of bank holidays
- Life assurance
- Private medical insurance
- Funded training and professional qualifications
- Wellbeing support platform and mental health first aiders
- Staff reward and recognition schemes
- Discount and savings platforms
- Optional pay advance scheme
