The Role
As Dispensing Optician, you’ll play a key part in the patient journey, acting as the vital link between the consulting room and the dispensing process. You’ll provide expert advice, deliver a premium experience, and ensure every patient leaves with the best possible solution for their lifestyle and visual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding customer service with a warm, professional approach
- Support the three-way handover between the Optometrist and patient
- Guide patients through frame and lens selection with confidence
- Take accurate measurements, including the use of digital dispensing tools where required
- Ensure orders are processed smoothly and liaise with suppliers when needed
- Carry out quality checks, fittings, and adjustments to ensure comfort and accuracy
- Complete administration and clinical record keeping to a high standard, ensuring GDPR compliance
- Handle transactions accurately and in line with practice procedures
- Support and supervise Dispensing Assistants, providing training where appropriate
- Assist with minor repairs to spectacles and hearing devices
- Resolve patient queries professionally, escalating where necessary
- Maintain excellent standards of presentation in both personal appearance and practice environment
- Keep up to date with products, clinical techniques, CPD, and GOC requirements
Requirements
- Previous experience within an optical dispensing environment
- Level 6 Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing (or equivalent)
- GOC registration
- Strong communication skills with a patient-first mindset
- Confident using IT systems with strong organisational skills
- Positive, adaptable, and motivated to develop within a progressive independent practice
