We are supporting a leading private hospital group in the appointment of a Pathology Hub Manager to oversee three sites across Devon. This opportunity is suited to a clinical laboratory leader or Senior BMS with strong experience in operational delivery, quality management, and team leadership within a regulated pathology environment. Our pathology hub spans three hospital sites across Exeter (primary site), Taunton, and Plymouth. The role will require travel between sites approximately once a month, or as operationally required. Reporting into the Pathology Director, you will lead service performance while ensuring quality, compliance, workforce effectiveness, and operational resilience remain central to service delivery.
Our in-house services include Biochemistry, Haematology, and Blood Transfusion. Microbiology is managed within a separate hub, and Histology is outsourced to the local trust but remains coordinated through our laboratory service. The position requires close collaboration with clinical teams, consultants, and hospital SLT to support continuous improvement and maintain high standards across all service areas.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support multidisciplinary pathology teams across several locations.
- Oversee workforce planning, staffing, training, and performance management activities.
- Ensure laboratory services operate in line with all relevant accreditation and regulatory standards.
- Monitor service performance, identifying opportunities for operational improvement and increased efficiency.
- Support the delivery of quality assurance and governance frameworks across the department.
- Manage departmental budgets and contribute to financial planning and reporting processes.
- Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
- Drive service development projects and contribute to wider organisational objectives.
