Getting the right support shouldn’t be complicated. This role is about making sure it isn’t. As an Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health System Navigator, you’ll be based within the Family Help front door in our Coventry Shine service, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to help people access the right support, at the right time, in the right place.

A big part of the role is helping people make sense of what can be a complex system, so they can get to the right support without being passed around or left waiting without answers. This includes reviewing referrals, understanding what’s going on, and guiding children, young people and families towards support that fits their needs. It’s a new role, so you won’t just be stepping into something already set. You’ll help shape how it works, working closely with partners across health, education, social care and the community to make things more joined up and easier to navigate.

Building trust is a big part of it. You’ll have honest conversations, offer guidance, and step in where people need someone to advocate for them. You’ll be part of wider conversations across services, sharing insight, spotting where things are not working, and helping improve how support is delivered. It’s busy, and at times complex, but it’s the kind of role where you can genuinely help things move in the right direction. To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience working with children, young people and families in a health, education, social care or community setting
  • Experience supporting individuals with emotional wellbeing or mental health needs
  • Experience working across services or with other professionals
  • Confidence in signposting or navigating support
  • A good understanding of emotional wellbeing and mental health needs in young people
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, confidentiality and information sharing
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment

Desirable experience includes early help or CAMHS services, service improvement work, or knowledge of Coventry pathways. Training in trauma informed practice or motivational interviewing would support you but is not essential. What matters most is your approach.
