BTEC Teacher

An established SEMH school in Little Clacton is looking to appoint a Teacher of BTEC Work Skills to support students in developing key employability and life skills. The successful candidate will deliver practical lessons that prepare students for employment, further education and independent living.

Responsibilities

• Deliver practical lessons that prepare students for employment, further education and independent living.
• Teach key employability skills including communication, teamwork, problem solving and time management.
• Support students with coursework, portfolio evidence and assessment requirements.
• Build students' confidence, resilience and workplace awareness.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher or experienced vocational instructor.
• Experience teaching BTEC or employability‑based qualifications (desirable).
• Experience working with SEMH or SEND learners is advantageous.
• Strong relationship‑building and classroom management skills.

About the School

We are a small, specialist SEND school set up to provide purposeful learning for students aged 11 to 17 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH). The school offers education in a therapeutic environment for young people who have previously struggled in mainstream provision. We are based in a tranquil rural location in Little Clacton, Essex, and operate out of five classrooms including a separate therapy room and facilities for cooking lessons. Outdoor space is available for recreation and PE lessons. Our children come from a wide range of backgrounds; many also have other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities such as Autism, ADHD and communication difficulties. As a trauma and attachment‑informed organisation, all staff receive extensive therapeutic training and support. Our closely triangulated approach places the child at the centre of decision making, ensuring that education and therapy professionals, parents/carers, local authority teams and students work together to secure outstanding outcomes.
