Summary: CCS | Compass Corporate Services have exclusively partnered with a market leading Real Estate Investment Trust dedicated to investing in the regulated social housing sector in the UK to find an Environmental & Sustainability focused Building Surveyor.
Overview: We are looking for a highly motivated Building Surveyor to drive the implementation of sustainability and decarbonisation efforts across healthcare housing and educational building portfolios. The role ensures compliance with Net Zero Carbon targets, Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES), and the Decent Homes Standard, while enhancing environmental and social impact.
You will conduct building condition assessments, retrofit evaluations, and contribute to ESG reporting, supporting housing providers and operating partners in aligning with UK government policies, funding opportunities (e.g., the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund), and resident well-being initiatives. You will visit properties on both a cyclical and needs basis with a heavy focus on the energy performance of the portfolio. With over 1500 properties, it is vital that they are performing as efficiently as possible. You will present your findings and ideas to investors regularly so will need to be confident in this area.
You will be tenacious, organised and demonstrate initiative to identify opportunities for improvement, propose remedial actions and oversee effective implementation. A proven ability to quickly identify and focus on what is technically relevant, analysing problems in order to recommend solutions is essential.
Essential Criteria:
- RICS/ MCIOB qualified (at least 5 years post qualified experience)
- Experience of building services/surveying in the Social Housing Sector
- A willingness to travel, including overnight to visit sites
- Interest in and firm knowledge of the built environment, including building regulations and H&S legislation
- Private Equity experience

- Is persuasive, convincing and a strong negotiator when representing the group's interests robustly and fairly.
- Focuses on compliance, risk, and health and safety in site and residential settings.
- Can present confidently to large groups.
- Good team player - prepared to 'roll sleeves up' and help out.
