Our clients are looking for a Senior Development Underwriter to join their London Branch, proactively managing the submissions, quotes, and binds for new business and delivering against target quote and conversion ratios. This job is hybrid working – 3 days in London or seeing Brokers, 2 days at home.

Joining a London based New business underwriting team as a Senior P&C underwriter, you will write general commercial combined business. Products include Charities (Healthcare), Education, Health and Social Care, Hotels, Manufacturing, Office, Property Owners, Restaurants, Motor Trade, and Warehousing. Premiums are probably from £15,000 – £400,000. The London team covers a wide area to include Essex, East Anglia, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Reading, and Kent. Underwriters are supported by administrators in Redhill and a sales and distribution team.

What Will You Do?

Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business primarily comprised of moderate to complex accounts across all our clients’ products.

Underwrite and skilfully negotiate moderate to complex risks to minimise risk and maximise profitability, including Mid Term Adjustments (MTAs).

Proactively manage your portfolio, ensuring key performance indicators are consistently achieved and you actively target new business and retention.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

A Levels or similar qualification.

Knowledge: Deep knowledge of products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.

Analytical/Critical thinking: Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to underwrite, market products, identify financial challenges, and analyse available information to make decisions in alignment with our clients’ risk appetite.

Communication/Influence: Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with brokers.
