Compass Point Recruitment is partnering with a well-established manufacturing business in Bury St Edmunds to recruit a Maintenance Engineer with a strong mechanical bias. This is a hands-on role focused on maintaining and repairing production and utility equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation within a high-volume manufacturing environment. You will join a proactive and experienced engineering team where mechanical expertise plays a key role in minimising downtime and driving continuous improvement.
Shift Pattern: This role operates on a Panama shift pattern, rotating between days and nights. A full annual shift rota is provided in advance, allowing you to plan your time effectively.
- 12-hour shifts
- Excellent work-life balance - effectively around 50% of the year off when accounting for rest days and holidays
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out planned preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance across all production and utility equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, motors, bearings, hydraulics, and pneumatic systems
- Support electrical fault-finding where required as part of a multi-skilled maintenance team
- Assist with the installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of new and existing machinery
- Accurately record maintenance activities, breakdowns, and corrective actions
- Actively participate in the BOPEX / continuous improvement programme
- Ensure full compliance with site safety procedures, regulations, and company policies
- Identify, report, and stop unsafe operations, using PPE as required
Skills & Experience Required:
- Proven experience working as a Maintenance Engineer in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment (e.g. product handling, conveying systems, elevating equipment)
- Strong mechanical fault-finding skills with hands-on repair experience
- Background in hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, and mechanical assemblies
- Relevant mechanical qualifications (NVQ, HNC/HND, or apprenticeship-trained in Mechanical Engineering or Maintenance)
- Experience working continental or 12-hour shift patterns is advantageous
- Practical, safety-focused, and methodical approach to maintenance engineering
