We are looking for a kind, calm, and patient Personal Assistant to join our small home-based support team. The role is to support a nearly 17-year-old autistic young woman with a PDA profile who can be situationally mute when feeling overwhelmed or with unfamiliar people. She has a wonderful sense of humour and a range of interests, including playing bass guitar, creating art, vintage clothes, charity shops, and spending time with her much-loved dog. Due to her communication differences, interactions need to be slow, gentle, and led by her. She is also experiencing health difficulties at present, so interactions will need to be very gentle and patient. There is another disabled teen in the household with complex needs, and the required skill to be aware and adaptable around them is also important.
This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys making a difference in a young person’s life while working as part of a supportive and friendly team.
Main Duties:- Building a trusted and caring 1:1 relationship
- Eventually supporting with trips out of the house when trust has been built over time (social, leisure, and everyday activities)
- Encouraging independence and wellbeing at home, including support with cooking
- Providing neuro-affirming and trauma-informed support, with an understanding of autism, anxiety, and spiky sensory profiles
- Working in a calm, flexible, and respectful way that values her interests and preferences
- Kind, reliable, and able to use humour appropriately
- Experience of supporting autistic people, particularly those with PDA and anxiety
- Willingness to undertake any further necessary training
- Quiet approach, able to co-regulate and follow lead
- Trauma informed
- Understanding of sensory needs
- Car owner with driving licence
