Overall Purpose of the Role

Chartwells are looking for a Dietician to join our award-winning team. The role will be based in Newport requiring regular travel across the region. The successful candidate should be based within easy access to our Newport office. They should be an expert in nutrition with an interest in nutrition education, food allergies and knowledge of legislation around food and nutrition including the Welsh School Food Standards.

The Dietician will have responsibility for the management and delivery of ‘Beyond the Chartwells Kitchen’, our bespoke educational programme and delivering this across the region to educate school aged children, in classrooms or in assemblies, on the importance of healthy eating. You will be accountable (on behalf of the wider added value team) to the Head of Operations and Client in terms of reporting and evidencing success and execution of the programme. Outside of term time, this role will lead a bespoke project in the local community, delivering food and wellbeing education to children who need it most.

This role will also support and manage the provision of medical diets for the schools in the region which includes:

  • Writing and checking medical diet menus for different food allergies, intolerances, and medical conditions
  • Regular communication with parents, schools, catering teams and medical professionals
  • Working with suppliers to provide feedback and guidance on products
  • Auditing schools
  • Training catering teams
  • Reporting any incidents & working with HSE to investigate

This role will be provided with training and development courses which will enhance their CPD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering nutrition education to school aged children using our Beyond the Chartwells Kitchen programme in classrooms or assemblies.
  • Evaluating the impact of BTCK to client and regional team
  • Support the creation of new resources and modules within our BTCK programme
  • In school holidays support holiday provision clubs with nutrition education
  • Visiting schools across region to audit and provide support to kitchen teams ensuring compliance to school food standards and medical diet procedure.
  • Supporting our extensive medical diet procedure throughout the business by:
  • Creating a wide range of medical diet menus for our pupils with food allergies and intolerances.
  • Ensuing FIR regulations are met by providing up to date allergy information in the form of allergy reports.
  • Managing day to day parent, pupil and client queries surrounding medical diets.
  • Manage sensitive pupil allergy information in an organised and auditable manner o Regularly attending parent and client meetings regarding medical diet provision.
  • Maintaining medical diet information throughout our in-house menu management systems.
  • Contributing to ingredient, recipe, and menu development.
  • Deliver medical diet training throughout the business.
  • Review policies and procedures on medical diets for contract.
  • Working closely with catering managers and area managers to promote a joined‑up approach to safely providing medical diet meals.
  • Provide expert knowledge of legislation around food and nutrition
  • Working closely with in‑contract team to provide information required and working in collaboration to meet KPIs of contract
  • Being a key representative of the company to client and schools.
  • Supporting wider business projects when required.

Person Specification

  • Must have degree (BSc) in Dietetics
  • Confident public speaker with a flair for engaging with audiences
  • Passionate about nutrition and translating key nutrition messages to audiences including children.
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to adapt communication to a range of stakeholders including clients, teachers, parents, and pupils
  • Experience in working with people with allergies and intolerances is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided
  • Experience using nutritional analysis system such as Saffron (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential as full training provided
  • Excellent IT skills and ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Excellent organisation skills with ability to manage a busy inbox and a high volume of workload
  • High attention to detail is crucial
  • Ability to travel and be a confident user of road networks.
  • Positive, can‑do attitude!
