Location: Cardiff (covering 4 ESS sites in the region)

Salary: Up to £27,700 per annum

Contract: Monday - Friday

Requirements: DBS check, Full UK Driving Licence & access to a vehicle

We have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Relief Chef to join our ESS team, supporting multiple sites across Cardiff and the surrounding area.

About ESS (Part of Compass Group)

The Role

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic Relief Chef to oversee catering delivery across multiple ESS sites. You’ll be responsible for maintaining high standards of food, safety, and service, while ensuring our teams are motivated and supported to deliver the best possible customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support onsite catering teams across ESS sites in Cardiff and surrounding areas
  • Prepare and oversee the delivery of high-quality, nutritious meals for our clients and customers
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety, Hygiene and Health & Safety standards at all times
  • Oversee kitchen standards, including cleanliness, stock control and equipment use
  • Complete weekly reporting, bookwork and audits as required
  • Drive consistency in food quality, presentation, and service across all sites
  • Engage with stakeholders and build strong working relationships
  • Support, coach and develop kitchen teams to achieve their full potential

About You:

  • Previous experience in a Supervisor role is essential
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams
  • Flexible and adaptable approach, able to travel between multiple sites
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, Food Hygiene, and Environmental principles
  • Organised, self-motivated and able to work under pressure
  • IT literate, with experience in stock management and reporting systems
  • Passionate about food, service excellence and continuous improvement
