Higher Level Teaching Assistant – Compass Community School

Compass Community School is an Independent Specialist SEMH School located in Tipton, Sandwell. We welcome applications for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who has experience working within the Primary cohort and expertise in the Primary curriculum.

Role Overview

Our school serves children with diverse Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and additional SEN needs such as Autism, ADHD and communication difficulties. Teaching Assistants will work within a trauma and attachment‑informed framework, delivering therapeutic support and classroom instruction alongside the main Primary teachers.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver teaching to cover and support the main Primary teacher; lead on planning in some areas
  • Support primary teachers in the classroom
  • Work with children 1:1 or in small groups
  • Manage classroom resources and assist with organisation of lessons
  • Take children on trips and visits
  • Help children who struggle socially to have their lunch with us
  • Manage heightened behaviours and keep children safe
  • Play board games, conduct science experiments and create amazing displays
  • Celebrate successes and reflect on difficult periods

  • Supporting teachers in the classroom
