We work with children who have social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH) and many also have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) such as autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. Many have suffered significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences and may have social care involvement.
Health, Learning and Therapy Assistants (HLTAs) support children with complex and challenging behaviours. They must be attentive, communicate appropriately, be consistent, flexible and non‑judgmental. HLTAs wear many hats and adapt rapidly to changing needs.
Responsibilities- Supporting teachers in the classroom
- Working with children 1:1 or in small groups
- Managing classroom resources
- Taking children on trips and visits
- Sharing lunchtime with children who struggle socially
- Managing heightened behaviours and ensuring child safety
- Playing board games with children
- Conducting science experiments
- Making displays and celebrating success
- Participating in therapy sessions or reflecting on difficult periods
- Recognise with £200 (2 years), £400 (5 years) and £600 (10 years) service awards
- Up to £500 special recognition award for outstanding practice
