Compass Associates are proud to be working alongside a well-established specialist provider of education, care and health services for children and young people with complex needs.

The organisation operates a range of specialist schools and services, bringing together education, care and clinical expertise to provide individualised support and help young people achieve positive outcomes. Its approach places a strong emphasis on collaborative, person-centred support, with therapeutic input helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop independence and engage more effectively with their education.

Together, we are looking for an Occupational Therapist (OT) to join a specialist education setting in Somerset, supporting children and young people aged 7–19 with additional needs, including autism, ADHD and mild to moderate learning disabilities, alongside associated social, emotional and mental health needs. The role will combine assessment, intervention and consultation, working closely with education staff to embed therapeutic strategies within the school environment.

Location:

The role will be based across a specialist school with two sites in Somerset, situated approximately 15 minutes apart between Taunton and Yeovil.

The schools support children and young people aged 7–19 who require additional support to access learning, with a combined registered capacity of approximately 60 pupils. The successful candidate will work across both sites as required, with the opportunity to work from home during school holidays, subject to service requirements.

Work Pattern:

Monday to Friday, full-time. However, part-time applicants at a minimum of 3 days per week can also be considered.

52 weeks per year, with annual leave available throughout the year rather than being restricted to school holidays.

The role is primarily site-based during term time, with some home-working flexibility outside term time, subject to service requirements.

Criteria:

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist, registered with the HCPC.
  • Completion of the relevant competencies to practise confidently within a specialist education setting.
  • Previous experience working within an educational environment is essential.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a caseload and provide effective therapeutic input across two school sites.

Interview Process:

The interview process will typically involve three stages:

  • Stage One: An informal interview via Microsoft Teams.
  • Stage Two: A formal interview via Microsoft Teams.
  • Stage Three: A visit and show-around at the school.

Depending on availability and circumstances, the formal interview and school visit may be combined into one appointment.

Salary and Benefits:

This Occupational Therapist role offers a salary of up to £45,000 per annum, depending on experience, alongside a £4,000 welcome bonus and a comprehensive benefits package:

  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Monthly clinical supervision, with additional sessions available when required.
  • Peer supervision and access to a wider clinical and therapy network.
  • Home-working flexibility outside term time, subject to service requirements.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Blue Light Card discounts.
