Overview

Compass Associates is recruiting on behalf of a specialist, values-driven provider of residential care for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced and autonomous Registered Manager to lead a high-acuity, apartment-based service in Stoke-on-Trent. Our client is a growing organisation with a 10-year track record of delivering outstanding outcomes for people with complex learning disabilities and behaviours of concern. They operate with a strong Positive Behaviour Support ethos and a genuine commitment to quality of life and restriction reduction, not simply behaviour management. This is a role for someone who thrives on challenge, is personally invested in the people they support, and has the resilience and autonomy to lead a complex service without close direction.

The Role

You will take full operational responsibility for a small bedded residential home in Stoke-on-Trent. You will lead and manage a large staff team, including a Deputy Manager, Senior Team Leader, and Team Leaders, reporting directly into the Regional Manager. You will be supported by a dedicated wraparound Specialist Support team, including PBS practitioners and a specialist learning disability nurse, who visit the service regularly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full day-to-day operational management of the service
  • Overseeing complex, person-centred care plans, PBS plans, and restriction reduction plans
  • Managing and responding to behaviours of concern in line with Positive Behaviour Support principles
  • Leading Serious Incident Reviews and coordinating with the Specialist Support team
  • Autonomously managing safeguarding referrals and CQC notifications
  • Managing staff performance, conduct, investigations, and complaints across a large team
  • Holding and maintaining CQC registration for the service

Requirements

  • Previous CQC registration as a Registered Manager is essential
  • Demonstrable experience managing high-acuity complex needs, including learning disabilities and behaviours of concern
  • Strong working knowledge of PBS, MCA, DoLS, the Care Act, safeguarding, and CQC expectations
  • Proven ability to manage large staff teams and high volumes of support hours
  • NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care Leadership and Management is desirable but not essential
  • Autonomous and confident in acting without prompting on regulatory and safeguarding matters
  • Resilient, highly organised, and able to manage multiple competing priorities on a daily basis
  • A genuine commitment to quality of life, restriction reduction, and person-centred outcomes
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
  • Suitable backgrounds include Registered Managers, Service Managers, Locality Managers, Area Managers, Regional Managers, and turnaround or interim managers seeking a permanent role

Benefits

  • £50,000 per annum (fixed)
  • 28 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Mileage reimbursement at 45p per mile for travel outside of the service
  • Clear career progression pathways within a growing organisation
  • Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, fully on site
  • On-call rota of 1 in 7 weeks shared across regional managers and deputies
