Are you an experienced contracts manager with experience working within the healthcare sector? Do you have extensive experience managing and reviewing NHS contracts?
Compass Associates are currently working in partnership with a leading independent provider of NHS and private community healthcare services across the UK. Working in close partnership with the NHS, they deliver high-quality outpatient and day-case procedures designed to improve patient access and reduce waiting times, while providing care in modern, local community clinic settings. As a result of the expansion of their contracts team, they are currently seeking a Senior Contracts Manager who will have full oversight of NHS contracts across the organisation. The successful applicant will manage contract negotiations, monitoring contract performance and be the primary contact for all NHS contract correspondence across the organisation.
Responsibilities:
- Act as the lead specialist for NHS Standard Contracts, ensuring full compliance across all services and functions.
- Lead contract governance activities, including formal contract reviews, variations, and end-to-end change control processes.
- Manage annual negotiations with NHS commissioners to secure equitable, compliant, and sustainable contractual arrangements.
- Oversee the preparation, coordination, and submission of all contract documentation, schedules, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Monitor contract performance against KPIs, quality standards, and activity targets, collaborating closely with operational, clinical, and data teams.
- Chair and/or lead contract performance review meetings with commissioners, ensuring effective follow-up and delivery of agreed improvement actions.
- Manage in-year contract variations and amendments, ensuring robust internal governance and approval processes are followed.
- Develop and maintain strong, effective relationships with commissioners.
- Identify, escalate, and actively manage contractual risks, compliance issues, and performance concerns to ensure timely resolution.
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of NHS Standard Contracts, including schedules, KPIs, reporting requirements, and quality frameworks.
- In-depth understanding of NHS commissioning structures (ICBs, NHS England) and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Proven experience managing contract negotiations, in-year variations, and performance management within a healthcare setting.
- Good understanding of healthcare governance, safeguarding, information governance, and data quality standards.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence effectively.
- Experience using NHS systems such as SUS, SLAM, eRS, and RTT/PTL tools.
