Deputy Manager | Elderly Nursing & Dementia Care Home

Salary: Up to Β£60,000 per annum (DOE)

Are you an experienced RGN Deputy Manager who enjoys providing strong clinical leadership while supporting and developing a wider care team?

Are you confident maintaining clinical standards, supporting quality improvement and helping colleagues build their skills and confidence?

Would you welcome the opportunity to work alongside an experienced RGN Home Manager in an established, high-occupancy care home?

Then this could be the position for you!

We are working with an established elderly care provider seeking an experienced Deputy Manager for one of their care homes in the Romford area.

The service provides nursing, residential and dementia care. Occupancy is currently around 95% or above, the clinical team is fully recruited, and three unit leads support the wider service.

The home has an established management structure, with recent internal audits achieving good results. The focus is on building on this progress, maintaining standards and continuing to strengthen the quality of care delivered across the service.

This is an important appointment, with a particular focus on supporting and upskilling staff across the nursing and dementia units. The successful candidate will combine sound clinical judgement with an approachable leadership style, helping colleagues develop their practice while supporting the Home Manager with the day-to-day running of the service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in partnership with the Home Manager to provide effective clinical leadership and day-to-day management support.
  • Maintain high standards of clinical practice, care delivery, governance and compliance.
  • Support, coach and develop the three unit leads and wider care team.
  • Identify staff development needs and help upskill colleagues across the nursing and dementia units.
  • Support quality assurance activity, ensuring audit findings and learning translate into consistent practice.
  • Provide clinical oversight for residents with a range of needs, including complex dementia.
  • Help maintain the stability of the service while supporting continued improvement and high standards of care.
  • Contribute to a positive working environment where staff feel supported, accountable and confident in their roles.

The Ideal Candidate

  • RGN-qualified, with previous experience as a Deputy Manager in an elderly care setting.
  • An established Deputy Manager rather than someone seeking their first step into the position.
  • Clinically confident, with a good understanding of nursing care, clinical governance and quality assurance.
  • Experienced in supporting, coaching and developing staff to improve practice and maintain standards.
  • Approachable and collaborative, able to work effectively alongside the Home Manager and unit leads.
  • Organised and resilient, with the ability to balance clinical priorities with the operational demands of a busy care home.

The Role and the Home

  • Established 80-bed care home providing nursing, residential and dementia care.
  • Occupancy currently around 95% or above.
  • Fully recruited clinical team, supported by three unit leads.
  • Work closely with an RGN Home Manager with an extensive nursing background.
  • Recent internal audits achieving good results, with a continued focus on maintaining standards and improvement.
  • A key part of the role will be developing staff skills and confidence across the nursing and dementia units.
  • Salary of up to Β£60,000 per annum.
  • 40 hours per week, with a working pattern agreed with the Home Manager to ensure appropriate management cover. Some flexibility around start and finish times may be required.

Location

The home is based in the Romford area and may suit candidates commuting from Hornchurch, Upminster, Dagenham, Barking, Ilford, Brentwood, Rainham and surrounding areas of East London and Essex.
