Compass Associates are proud to be working with a leading private healthcare provider in the search for Theatre Practitioners (RGN or ODP qualified) to join their growing theatre department at their well-established hospital in Plymouth. The hospital delivers a broad range of elective surgical procedures including Orthopaedics, Cosmetics, Gynaecology and Urology to name a few, and prides itself on delivering high-quality patient care within a supportive and collaborative theatre environment.

The Role

We are seeking motivated Theatre Practitioners and ODPs with scrub experience to join a busy and supportive theatre department. The client is open to candidates from a variety of theatre backgrounds, including those with mixed exposure across scrub, anaesthetics and recovery, provided there is practical scrub competency and a willingness to continue developing within theatres. This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced practitioners and those earlier in their theatre career who are looking to further develop their scrub skills within a well-supported private hospital setting.

You will have a number of responsibilities including:

  • Supporting a wide range of surgical procedures within theatres
  • Preparing and maintaining sterile fields throughout operations
  • Scrubbing for procedures and anticipating the needs of the surgical team
  • Ensuring theatre equipment, instrumentation and consumables are prepared and checked appropriately
  • Monitoring and maintaining patient safety throughout the perioperative pathway
  • Working collaboratively with consultants, anaesthetists, ODPs and wider theatre staff
  • Supporting the smooth running of theatre lists and effective theatre turnaround times
  • Maintaining accurate clinical documentation in line with governance standards
  • Participating in weekend and on-call rotas where required
  • Contributing positively to a supportive and team-focused theatre culture

Working Hours & Shift Patterns

This position offers flexibility across working patterns, with both full-time (37.5 hours per week) and part-time (30 hours per week) permanent contracts. The core team currently work a pattern of three long days and one 7.5 hour shift per week. Weekend work is limited to Saturdays only, with theatre lists typically running every other Saturday. There is also an on-call rota in place, currently operating approximately every other week depending on staffing levels.

  • RGN or ODP qualification with valid NMC or HCPC registration
  • Previous theatre experience within a hospital setting
  • Practical scrub experience is essential – we welcome applications from any specialities
  • Ability to work effectively within a busy theatre environment

Development & Support
