Responsibilities:

As Theatre Coordinator at Welbeck Oxford, you will be responsible for the delivery of safe patient care and the coordination of theatre and procedural activity in line with the business needs of the centre. You will:

  • Provide clinical leadership to the perioperative team, act as a role model and mentor to theatre staff and support the Theatre and Procedural Suite Managers in the operational management of the department.
  • Be an effective decision maker, able to manage complex and unpredictable work patterns, prioritise effectively, and act on your own initiative.
  • Take charge of the theatre department under the direction of the Theatre Manager, leading and managing the day-to-day coordination and clinical operations of the theatre suite at Welbeck Oxford.
  • Ensure the safe and timely provision of perioperative care to all patients undergoing surgical procedures, maintaining the highest standards of clinical quality, patient safety and AfPP best practice at all times.
  • Provide clinical and managerial leadership to the perioperative team, supporting ongoing staff development, service improvement and professional standards in line with NMC/HCPC requirements.
  • Proactively respond to and lead on clinical incidents, staffing challenges and theatre flow issues, with support from the Theatre Manager.
  • Support the Theatre and Procedural Suite Managers in maintaining a safe and appropriately staffed departments, including completion of staff rotas and skill mix review.
  • Ensure full compliance with CQC requirements, AfPP standards, WHO Surgical Safety Checklists, and all relevant Welbeck Oxford policies and procedures.

The Theatre Coordinator will report directly into the Theatre Manager and will require multidisciplinary collaboration with consultants, all clinical and non-clinical teams and Welbeck Oxford Senior Leadership Team.

What can you bring?

Essential Skills:

  • Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and revalidation
  • Significant perioperative/theatre experience (scrub, circulating and/or anaesthetic)
  • Experience in a senior or lead clinical role within theatres
  • Experience coordinating or managing theatre lists and daily theatre operations
  • Experience of incident reporting, investigation and governance processes
  • Strong knowledge of AfPP standards and perioperative best practice
  • Understanding of WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and 5 Steps to Safer Surgery
  • Strong organisational, planning and time-management skills
  • Effective verbal, written, and non-verbal communication skills adaptable to a range of audiences
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively across functions
  • Computer skills including use of electronic theatre management and patient record systems

  • Experience leading, managing and developing a perioperative team
  • Experience conducting staff appraisals and performance reviews
  • Experience working in a private healthcare setting
  • Experience of sterile services and instrument management
  • Understanding of budgetary awareness and cost-effective resource management
  • Knowledge of CQC standards and regulatory compliance in a healthcare setting
