This role is for an experienced Commissioning General Manager to take full responsibility for the setup, launch and day-to-day leadership of the service. You will play a key role in preparing the home for opening, including recruitment, systems implementation, regulatory readiness and culture-building, before transitioning into full operational management post-opening.

The successful candidate will be instrumental in embedding high standards of care, ensuring compliance from day one, and creating a positive, resident-focused environment that supports long-term stability and success.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an established care leader with proven experience commissioning or opening new elderly care services. You will be confident managing pre-opening timelines, recruiting and training teams, and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a smooth and compliant launch.

You will be a visible, hands-on leader who can balance strategic planning with operational delivery. This role would particularly suit someone who thrives in commissioning environments and takes pride in setting strong foundations, systems and culture from the outset.

Requirements – Essential

  • Proven experience commissioning or opening an elderly care home
  • Previous experience as a Home Manager or General Manager within elderly care
  • Strong working knowledge of CQC regulations, registration and compliance
  • Experience recruiting, onboarding and developing teams for a new service
  • Ability to manage budgets, resources and pre-opening costs
  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills
  • Flexible and resilient approach during the commissioning phase

Requirements – Desirable

  • Experience working closely with regulatory bodies during registration
  • Knowledge of Person Centred Software (PCS)
  • Opportunity to lead a full commissioning project
  • 20% bonus
  • Strong senior leadership and project support

Interview Process

The recruitment process will consist of the following stages:

  • Stage One: Initial interview
  • Stage Two: Final interview

Location

The service is based in Cornwall and is easily commutable from Helston, Penzance, Redruth, Camborne, Truro, Falmouth, Hayle, St Austell, Newquay, Bodmin, and surrounding areas.

Summary

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Commissioning General Manager to lead the opening of a brand-new elderly care service. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the culture, standards and long-term success of the home from day one.
