The Nursery Manager will lead the successful opening and ongoing management of a new nursery setting in Heywood. The role is responsible for ensuring the nursery operates in line with company policies, EYFS and Ofsted requirements, safeguarding legislation, and all relevant statutory guidance.
The Nursery Manager will provide inspirational leadership to the team, deliver high standards of childcare and education, ensure a safe and nurturing environment for children, and support strong occupancy and business performance.
Requirements
- 2-3 years’ experience in nursery management
- Budget management
- Large nursery setting experience (60+ places)
- Good Ofsted, governance and compliance
- Driving license (Desirable)

Key Responsibilities:
Operational Management
- Lead the day-to-day management of the nursery in accordance with company policies, procedures, EYFS requirements, and Ofsted standards.
- Ensure the nursery provides a safe, stimulating, inclusive, and caring environment where children can learn and develop.
- Support the successful launch and establishment of the new nursery site.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, and organisation throughout the nursery.
- Ensure all nursery records, policies, and documentation are accurate, up to date, and compliant.
Leadership & Staff Management
- Recruit, induct, develop, and retain suitably qualified and experienced staff.
- Carry out safer recruitment checks including references, DBS checks, and right-to-work verification.
- Lead, motivate, and support the nursery team to achieve high standards of practice.
- Conduct regular supervisions, appraisals, staff meetings, and performance reviews.
- Manage staff rotas, absence, and staffing ratios effectively.
- Ensure all employees follow company policies, procedures, and dress code expectations.
- Promote a positive culture of teamwork, professionalism, equality, and continuous improvement.
Safeguarding & Welfare
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the nursery.
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are fully implemented and understood by all staff.
- Ensure all staff complete mandatory safeguarding and child protection training.
- Maintain knowledge of local authority safeguarding procedures and statutory guidance.
- Take responsibility for safeguarding, health and safety, and welfare standards across the nursery.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain full compliance with Ofsted requirements, EYFS framework, and relevant childcare legislation.
- Lead the nursery through inspections and quality assurance processes.
- Monitor and improve the quality of teaching, learning, and care.
- Keep informed of sector developments, legislation updates, and best practice within early years education.
- Attend training and professional development opportunities as required.
Parent & Community Engagement
- Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers.
- Communicate regularly with families regarding children’s progress and nursery updates.
- Organise parent meetings, open days, and community events.
- Promote the nursery positively within the local community to support occupancy and reputation.
- Manage complaints professionally and in line with company procedures.
Financial & Business Management
- Support occupancy growth and retention of children.
- Manage nursery budgets, fees, invoicing, and outstanding payments in line with company procedures.
- Maintain effective control of nursery resources, consumables, and stock.
- Provide regular reports and information to directors as requested.
- Contribute to achieving nursery performance targets and profitability.
Health & Safety
- Ensure all health and safety procedures are implemented effectively.
- Carry out regular risk assessments and maintain accurate records.
- Oversee fire safety procedures, drills, equipment checks, and premises maintenance.
- Ensure the nursery premises remain secure, safe, and well maintained.
This role is based in Heywood, with transport links across the Northwest, such as great bus links from Rochdale, Bury, and Manchester.
