As a Core Technology Engineering Manager you will play a pivotal role in building and maintaining a world-class core technology capability by cultivating an environment where operational excellence, reliability, and innovation thrive. Rooted in the principles of Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose, the Core Technology Engineering Manager empowers engineers to solve complex, cross-cutting challenges through strong technical leadership, thoughtful coaching, and a relentless focus on quality and innovation.
Core Technology Engineering Managers are accountable for the resilience, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness of the platforms and infrastructure their teams own. They ensure cloud-native systems, automation tooling, and core services are robust, observable, and optimised – enabling internal teams to deliver customer value efficiently and safely. They partner with diverse business stakeholders to deliver cross-functional outcomes, balancing long-term architectural health with the demands of speed, compliance, and financial stewardship. By collaborating closely with multiple stakeholders, they help shape foundational capabilities that underpin the business.

People & Team Leadership
• Line manage Engineers, supporting career growth, skill development, and team engagement. Foster a culture of ownership, psychological safety, and high performance.
• Empower autonomous decision-making by removing blockers and aligning teams to meaningful outcomes.
Platform & Technical Ownership
• Own the resilience, scalability, security, and cost-efficiency of Microsoft and SAAS platforms and associated functions.
• Drive operational excellence, delivering against KPI\’s whilst ensuring alignment with business, architectural, and compliance goals.
• Lead incident management and continuous improvement of reliability, performance, and developer experience.
Project, Risk & Vendor Management
• Deliver strategic initiatives from planning through to execution.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks, ensuring compliance with 1st and 2nd line governance requirements.
• Manage technical vendor relationships and contracts, driving alignment with strategic, operational, and financial goals.
Ways of Working & Continuous Improvement
• Promote AI, automation, and best practices that support platform reliability and agility.
• Drive culture through innovation, shared ownership, and sustainable delivery practices.
• Contribute to the Enterprise Services strategy and translate it into clear, actionable plans that improve platform usability and reduce friction.
What we\’d like to see from you:
Expert Level (Must-Have) – Building, leading, and scaling high-performing cloud or platform engineering teams. Strong history of project delivery working with multiple stakeholder groups. Strong people management, career development, and team empowerment capabilities. Cross-functional and external stakeholder engagement.
Good Level (Preferred) – Technical leadership & software engineering best practices. Understanding of Microsoft Could Infrastructure and Office 365. Experience of managing SAAS applications. Experience with cloud-native architecture, infrastructure-as-code, automation, and operational excellence. Cost optimisation practices (e.g. Microsoft) Knowledge of security, availability, and disaster recovery principles in cloud environments.
Basic Level (Nice-to-Have) – Familiarity with AI-assisted operations 1st and 2nd line risk management, governance, and compliance in platform domains. End-to-end ownership of platform services with a focus on resilience, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Understanding of EUD Management.
