Position Summary: The Shop Lead reports directly to the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor and is responsible for the management and leadership of the fleet maintenance operations. The Shop Lead will work closely with fleet maintenance leadership to ensure that all shop employees comply with all company policies and are working within Cal OSHA regulations. The Shop Lead will work closely with all shop employees to ensure that they are performing truck maintenance in compliance with the Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and California Vehicle Code regulations for the purpose of maintaining a smooth, and safe operation between shop, and operations on a daily basis.
Essential Job Functions:
- Reviews operator’s daily vehicle inspection reports to assign corrective maintenance as necessary
- Inspects, tests, and troubleshoots defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers, engine analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges
- Troubleshoots major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials to identify if they need replacement or repair
- Helps mentor junior mechanics and mechanic apprentices with troubleshooting mechanical issues
- Identifies warrantable repairs and parts working closely with fleet maintenance supervisor and parts specialist to ensure warranty
- Maintains accurate service records of repairs, time, and materials required to perform repairs and services
- Assigns tasks to employees and verifies the quality of work performed
- Conducts employee safety observations and discusses observations with maintenance leadership
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of 8 years of heavy duty truck maintenance experience
- Valid Class C driver’s license
- Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting alternative fuel systems and Cummins engines
- Diagnostic abilities with scanner tool and laptop with OEM software / Cummins Engines & Allison Transmissions
- Advanced proficiency with hand and pneumatic tools to perform advanced level heavy duty truck maintenance and repair
- Acts in a professional, courteous and cooperative manner toward customers and co-workers; works with a sense of honesty and trustworthiness
- Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed in an efficient and safe manner
- Good follow through ability; ability to adhere to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise
- Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules set forth; promotes the Company's safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks
- Maintains a feeling of pride in work; strives to achieve all goals
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual – English/Spanish
- ASE Tor H Certifications
- Diesel Technology Certifications
- Section 609 Certification for Air Conditioning Repair
- Valid Class A or B driver’s license
- Waste and/or transportation industry a plus

Eye/hand coordination, handling (holding), and wrist motion continuously. Balancing, bending, stretching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, reaching, frequently.
Environmental: Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, noise, chemicals, grease, oil, hot/cold temperatures, wet slippery and uneven surfaces, and vibration continuously. Works inside & outside.
Hourly Pay: $39.27/hr
Schedule: Mon - Fri + OT Rotating Saturday
