The Fleet Maintenance Technician reports to the Fleet Maintenance Manager and Vehicle/Fleet Maintenance Supervisor. The Fleet Maintenance Technician is personally responsible for providing proper diagnosis and repair of any mechanical/technical issues to the existing operation of diesel and CNG fleet.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform assigned repairs and preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with established Standard Repair Times (SRTs), ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company safety and quality standards.
- Review daily Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and perform repairs along with completing assigned preventative maintenance tasks as necessary.
- Perform essential functions in a professional shop (maintenance) setting. Subject to Hot/Cold weather conditions on a frequent basis.
- Perform inspections, diagnosis/troubleshooting and repair of electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, suspension, brake, engine and pneumatic air systems on heavy-line commercial vehicles and other equipment.
- Perform safety inspections per DOT/CHP (B.I.T.) inspection process and other regulatory checks on vehicles and equipment.
- Perform roadside emergency diagnosis and repair of roadside equipment as directed by supervision.
- Complete required paperwork associated with repairing vehicles and equipment; to include documentation of parts usage, and repair times.
- Attendance and successful completion of all required safety and compliance training.
- Assist in clean-up during emergency situations such as load fires.
- Will be required to work early morning or late evening swing shift in an effort to provide proper support to the maintenance team.
- Frequent bending, pushing/pulling, stretching, stooping, climbing, twisting and lifting of parts/materials/equipment up to 75 lbs.
- Frequent use of specialized shop equipment such as A/C refrigerant machines, drill presses, heavy-duty jacks/lifts/hoists, pressure washers and cutting tools/grinders etc.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in heavy truck equipment maintenance & repair or equitable trade school and/or technical certifications.
- High School Diploma.
- Familiar with DOT CHP repair processes and controls for Drivers Vehicle Inspection Reports.
- Familiar with CNG alternative fuel systems.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle air conditioning/refrigerant systems.
- Ability to effectively communicate mechanical issues and required repairs.
- Basic knowledge of and use of laptop/Cummins Insite, Allison Transmission Programs.
- Perform all tasks safely and in accordance with applicable OSHA rules and regulations.
- Consistently behaves in a manner that is appropriate and professional.
- Ability to read and comprehend service and technical information.
- Valid Class C Driver's License.
- Acceptable Driver's Record.
- Must possess personal tools.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual English / Spanish.
- ASE/TIA Tire Certification.
- Welder Certification (TIG, MIG, ARC).
- Brakes Certification.
- CNG alternative fuel Certification.
- Commercial Class A/B driver’s license with air brake endorsement.
Physical/Environmental Demands:
- Physical: Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously. Problem solving, oral communication, analytical ability, concentration, exposure to heavy machinery, & eye/hand coordination, & handling continuously. Bending, reaching, stretching, crouching, pushing, pulling & lifting ≤ 50 Lbs. continuously.
- Environmental: Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet slippery surfaces, hot/cold conditions, & noise continuously. Works inside and outside.
Starting Hourly Rate: $35.70/hour
