Weârelooking for a ConstructionMultiskillsTutor who can engage and motivate young people through practical, handsâon learning. Many of our learners thrive with kinaesthetic, âlearning by doingâ approachesâespecially in construction, where teamwork, problemâsolving, and seeing tangible results can build both skills and confidence. Ideally,youâllhave experience working in construction trades or training others in practical skills, but we also know there are exceptional candidates whohavenâttutored before but have the right mindset and enthusiasm to excel. Many of our learners have complex needs, including autism, ADHD, anxiety, attachment disorders, and socialâemotional challenges, so patience, empathy, and adaptability are essential. At NMT, no two days are the same.Youâlllead practical construction sessions in areas like carpentry, tiling, decorating, and basic plumbing, helping young people develop employability skills, teamwork, and resilience along the way. Managing behaviour positively is a key part of this role, andyouâllbe part of a dynamic, inclusive teamthatâscommitted to making a real difference.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver handsâon, engaging Construction sessions that help young people explore creative techniques, build portfolios, and develop skills that matter
- Work 1:1 and in small groups to support learners atdifferent levelsof confidence and ability
- Collaborate with your team on scheme of work and lesson planning
- Encourage attendance, routine, and personal accountability in learners
- Support the development of learnersâ functional skills in Maths and English as part of their wider learning journey
- Keepaccuraterecords of progress, behaviour, and engagement
- Use a traumaâinformed, relational approach to behaviour management, helping learners feel safe,respectedand understood
- Reflect on your own practice and contribute to team development and training
- Work alongside support services, parents/carersand external agencies where relevant to promote learner success
About Us
New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 16â25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living.
This academic year we have300 young people from Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, and Berkshire.Many of theselearnersare referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units, and Special Education Needs settings.
Our journey began in 2015 with the opening of our first centre in High Wycombe, originally known as âToolshed.â Ten years on, NMT continues to grow.In Berkshireweârefortunate enough to have expanded into a second buildingin Readingfor our construction learners.Wehave a range oflearning programmes: ConstructionMultiskills,Creative Art & Design, Sports, BoostWorkskills, and AchieveLifeskills.All incorporate functional skills qualifications in Maths and English, along with tutorialsand enrichment sessionsto support our wellârounded approach. We also provide a âTransition Supportâ programme for young people with EHCPs who are not yet ready for a learning setting.
NMT tailors its programmes to meet the needs of its learners, considering Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We comprehensively apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (Trauma Informed Practice) to ensure all young people receive the support they need to thrive.
You will have:
- Ideally a Level 3 Award in Education & Training and preferably a Certificate of Higher Education, but training can be provided to the right candidate without these qualifications.
- IOSH Working Safely Qualification
- Experience in education, including Scheme of Work and Lesson Plan development.
- Strong conflict management and resolution skills.
- Excellent communication skills to inspire and motivate young people.
- A teamâoriented and proactive attitude, with the ability to work independently.
- Proven relationshipâbuilding skills with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Empathy and understanding for young people, with alignment to New Meaning Trainingâs values.
- A passion for helping learners achieve their goals through adaptability and initiative in tailoring learning styles and activities.
- Strong organisational skills and flexibility to meet deadlines and learner needs.
- Attention to detail in data collection and record keeping.
- Professionalism when engaging with learners, parents, and external stakeholders.
- An understanding of or willingness to learn about current social issues (e.g., County Lines, the impact of COVID on mental health).
- A creative flair for developing engaging activities that support individual learner goals.
