Salary: From ÂŁ24,246 FTE. Salary is negotiable and based on experience.

Do you have the practical skills and patience to inspire young people as they prepare for working life? For many, the transition to adulthood can be overwhelming—especially for those facing additional barriers such as social, emotional, or learning challenges. At New Meaning Training (NMT), we provide the structure, encouragement, and hands‑on experience they need to take control of their future.

We’re excited to be launching a new Construction Multiskills course at our Aylesbury Centre, and we’re looking for a tutor who can play a key role in getting this new programme off the ground. You’ll be part of something new and rewarding—helping to shape a positive, practical learning environment for learners from day one. You won’t be doing this alone. You’ll have the full backing of our experienced Construction Multiskills team based just down the road at our High Wycombe head office, who’ll be on hand to help with resources, guidance, and shared best practice.

We welcome applicants who can demonstrate hands‑on experience in construction, trades, or DIY, whether you’ve worked professionally in the industry or have a strong practical background and want to pass on your knowledge. Teaching experience is helpful but not essential—if you have the right mindset, patience, and enthusiasm to engage young people, we’ll provide the training and support you need to step confidently into the role.

Many of our learners thrive through “learning by doing” approaches, especially in construction, where teamwork, problem‑solving, and visible results help to build both confidence and employability skills. You’ll lead sessions across carpentry, decorating, tiling, and basic plumbing—using practical learning to inspire motivation, routine, and resilience. If you have the passion, creativity, and commitment to help young people develop real‑world skills and confidence in a supportive, hands‑on setting, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Launch and deliver the new Construction Multiskills course at our Aylesbury Centre, helping to establish high standards and positive learner culture from the start.
  • Plan and deliver engaging, hands‑on sessions in areas such as carpentry, decorating, tiling, and basic plumbing.
  • Support learners both 1:1 and in small groups, adapting sessions to suit different confidence and ability levels.
  • Work collaboratively with the High Wycombe team to align resources, schemes of work, and assessment approaches.
  • Encourage attendance, routine, and accountability, helping learners to build consistency and confidence.
  • Support the development of functional Maths and English skills within practical, real‑world contexts.
  • Use a trauma‑informed, relational approach to behaviour management, helping learners feel safe, respected, and understood.
  • Keep accurate records of progress, engagement, and outcomes to inform learner reviews and quality assurance.
  • Reflect on your own practice and contribute to team development and cross‑centre collaboration.
  • Liaise with support services, parents/carers, and external agencies to promote learner success and wellbeing.

About Us: New Meaning Training (NMT) offers education with a difference. We are an alternative education provider dedicated to helping young people aged 15–25 discover their strengths and develop the confidence and skills to earn their own living. For the 2025–2026 academic year, around 300 young people from across Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Berkshire, Warwickshire and the West Midlands will join one of our programmes. Many learners are referred by secondary schools, pupil referral units and Special Educational Needs (SEN) settings.

Since opening our first centre in High Wycombe in 2015 (originally known as “Toolshed”), we have grown to seven centres across five counties. Each centre delivers a tailored mix of programmes that may include: Construction Multiskills, Motor Mechanics, Creative Art & Design, Sports, Computing and Transition Support for young people with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs). All programmes incorporate Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English, alongside tutorials to support personal growth and employability.

In Buckinghamshire we now have four centres; our Headquarters in High Wycombe, a Lifeskills centre based at Thomley Activity Centre, an Enrichment Centre in Aylesbury and a brand new centre in Milton Keynes. NMT programmes are tailored to the individual needs of each learner, taking into account Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) as well as Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We apply the principles of a Loving Care Approach (trauma‑informed practice) across all our centres, ensuring that every young person receives the support they need to thrive.

You will have:
  • Ideally a Level 3 Award in Education & Training (or equivalent) and, preferably, a Certificate of Higher Education – though training can be provided for the right candidate.
  • An IOSH Working Safely qualification (desirable).
  • Practical experience in construction, trades, or DIY, with the ability to demonstrate and teach hands‑on skills.
  • (Desirable) experience in education or training, including planning schemes of work and lessons.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict‑management skills to inspire and support young people.
  • A team‑focused, proactive attitude, balanced with the ability to work independently.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with learners, colleagues, parents/carers, and external partners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Genuine empathy, patience, and professionalism, with alignment to NMT’s values and trauma‑informed Loving Care approach.
  • Awareness of, or willingness to learn about, Trauma‑Informed Practice, Attachment Theory, and wider social issues affecting young people (such as County Lines or post‑COVID mental health).
  • Creativity and adaptability in developing engaging, practical learning activities that meet individual learner goals.
  • Good organisational skills, accuracy in record keeping, and flexibility to meet deadlines and learner needs.
  • A commitment to self‑development, reflection, and sharing best practice, including participation in formal coaching.
  • An understanding of and adherence to organisational policies and safe working practices.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check in line with NMT’s Safer Recruitment procedures (required before employment).
