Job Description

Anticipated Contract End Date/Length: 12 months, with potential to extend

Working hours: 40 hours per week. This role follows UK business hours (typically 9:00–17:30 UK time), which is approximately 11:00–19:30 South Africa time depending on daylight savings.

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking SEO Team Lead to take ownership of global organic search and generative search strategy. This role will oversee the SEO roadmap, manage a team of 3 specialists, and ensure high-quality execution across technical SEO, content optimisation, authority building, and emerging areas such as AI-powered search and Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO). The successful candidate will play a key role in optimising content, site structure, and technical foundations for both traditional search engines and evolving generative search experiences within a complex enterprise environment.

What you will do:

  • Lead and line manage the SEO team, providing coaching, feedback, and day-to-day guidance
  • Translate SEO strategy into clear, actionable plans and drive delivery across global workstreams
  • Oversee technical SEO, content optimisation, authority building, and GEO execution
  • Review team and agency output to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to best practices
  • Manage external SEO agency relationships, including briefing, prioritisation, quality control, and delivery tracking
  • Drive AI search and generative engine optimisation initiatives, aligning structured data and content to emerging search behaviours
  • Coordinate with Technology, Product, Content, and Web Publishing teams to embed SEO requirements into roadmaps and releases
  • Monitor SEO performance and reporting workflows, summarising insights and trends for senior stakeholders
  • Support major initiatives such as site migrations and platform updates, managing risk and ensuring smooth execution
  • Maintain and improve SEO processes, documentation, templates, and ways of working to enhance efficiency and delivery quality

Qualifications

  • Proven leadership experience managing or mentoring SEO practitioners
  • Strong hands-on expertise across technical SEO, content optimisation, and authority building
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing delivery and ensuring high-quality execution across multiple workstreams
  • Familiarity with AI search trends, generative search optimisation, and emerging GEO best practices
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide feedback, influence stakeholders, and explain SEO concepts clearly
  • Excellent organisational and project coordination skills in complex enterprise environments
  • Proficiency with SEO and analytics tools including Google Search Console, SEMrush, ContentKing, Google Analytics, and Adobe Analytics
  • Proactive, detail-oriented approach with commitment to continuous improvement
  • Experience in B2B or Financial Services environments is preferred
  • Experience working with enterprise CMS platforms such as Adobe Experience Manager or WordPress is advantageous but not required
