Role Overview
The Head of Event Operations leads the operational strategy and delivery of all global events, ensuring excellence across logistics, onsite experience and customer engagement. As budget owner, the role manages the full event P&L, investment priorities and direct costs. Working closely with Commercial, Production, Marketing and wider teams, this highly visible, customer-facing role ensures every event aligns with commercial and strategic objectives while driving innovation, process optimisation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operational delivery of all conferences and awards across EMEA, APAC and the US.
- Manage, mentor and develop the Event Operations team; act as the functional lead for the department.
- Own the event P&L, build budgets, track performance and model cost scenarios.
- Develop onsite strategies to elevate attendee engagement, satisfaction and overall event flow.
- Oversee end-to-end event delivery, including staffing plans, supplier coordination, risk assessments and H&S compliance.
- Lead venue sourcing and contract negotiation on 2-3 year cycles; maintain venue performance data.
- Source and manage contractors (AV, furniture, graphics, branding) and negotiate high-value contracts.
- Partner with Sponsorship Sales to deliver branding inventory and manage post-sale fulfilment.
- Build structured processes for sponsor communication, fulfilment reporting and renewal support.
- Collaborate with Subscriptions, Editorial and Commercial teams to ensure their objectives are met onsite.
- Introduce and champion new technologies, tools and operational enhancements to improve efficiency.
- Benchmark against industry events, identifying opportunities to innovate and elevate the attendee experience.
- Contribute to wider business operations including travel, expenses, risk, insurance and supplier processes.
- Develop dashboards and KPIs to track operational performance and drive continuous improvement.
Required Experience & Skills
- 7+ years in B2B event operations; 1-2 years in a leadership role.
- Experience delivering events for finance, professional services or related sectors.
- Strong financial acumen and experience owning budgets.
- Proven negotiation of high-value venue contracts (£500k+).
- Excellent project management, attention to detail and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong presentation skills and an innovative, customer-centric mindset.
