Position Summary

This Residential Counselor will work in our Shelter Staff program and will be responsible for working closely with clients in a congregate emergency residential shelter site to provide life skills support to individuals who are staying at the shelter. This position also provides oversight of site operations which include enforcing safety measures, program rules, and expectations using a trauma-informed and client-centred approach.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of guests and the site.
  • Enforce rules and regulations to ensure smooth operation of the site.
  • Respond effectively to emergency situations, document appropriately, and communicate according to established guidelines.
  • Complete the intake process for new guests.
  • Provide support and structure addressing guest/resident problems or concerns.
  • Initiate crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Record documentation as required by program guidelines.
  • Uphold the values of CTI: Equity, Integrity, Compassion.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Excellent customer service, organisational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent crisis management skills.
  • Proficient computer skills in basic computer software and data collection.
  • Good attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1 year previous experience working with individuals in need of social services, preferably low-income individuals.
  • Bilingual skills.

The stated pay range represents the Agency's good faith estimate of the compensation for this role at the time of posting. Actual compensation within the range will be based on factors such as experience, skills, and qualifications.

Residential Counselor Full Time (40 hours) Monday thru Friday 12am-8am, Sunday overnight thru Thursday overnight. Role includes a $3.00 per hour shift differential for working overnights. Pay Range: $20.59 to $21.21 per hour.
