Use your commercial legal expertise to make a genuine difference for one of the UK’s biggest social care charities. We are looking for a Commercial Solicitor with 2-5 years post qualification experience to join our team! In this role, you’ll use your commercial law skills to support services that change thousands of lives across England and Scotland. You’ll be part of a friendly, in‑house legal team that helps turn new ideas, partnerships and plans into reality. As we take the next step in our charity’s journey, you’ll play a real part in the impact we have on people’s lives.
This is a full time permanent role with travel to our head office in Widnes at least once a week so our ideal candidate will be based within an hour's commute of Widnes. We're ideally looking for someone to work 37.5 hours a week, but we genuinely want to find the right person, so if you're looking to work part time (30 hours or more), we'd love to hear from you.

This is a varied, hands-on role at the heart of a purpose-driven organisation. You'll provide expert legal advice across contracts, property, procurement and risk - working autonomously alongside operational leaders to safeguard our assets, protect our reputation and give the whole organisation the confidence to act decisively. You'll be a trusted partner to the people doing the frontline work - translating legal complexity into clear, practical guidance that helps them move forward with confidence.
As a Commercial Solicitor, you’ll play a key role in managing legal risk and supporting sustainable growth. In this varied and interesting role, your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including publicly procured tenders, supplier agreements, service level agreements and housing arrangements
- Managing property matters such as leases, licences, heads of terms, disposals and legal charges
- Supporting procurement processes to ensure legal compliance
- Providing clear, pragmatic advice on operational matters including housing, fire safety, environmental and regulatory compliance
- Resolving contractual and debt related disputes effectively, protecting the charity’s financial position and reputation
- Drafting procurement documentation to support transparent, compliant sourcing of goods and services
- Instructing and working with external solicitors where specialist advice is required
- Staying up to date with legislation and best practice to ensure robust, current legal guidance across the organisation
Our ideal candidate:
- Essential: A qualified solicitor with 2–5 years PQE in commercial law
- Experience across contracts, property or regulatory matters
- The ability to work autonomously, manage a varied caseload and prioritise under pressure
- Proven ability to identify, assess and mitigate legal and commercial risk
- A communicator who makes the complex feel simple, — without losing precision
- Genuine enthusiasm for the charity sector and for legal work that has a real human impact
- Desirable: Experience working with or advising charities or in social care
- Exposure to procurement, policy development or project based legal work
- A proactive, solutions focused approach to improving legal processes
