Who will you be supporting and what is important to us?

I am a young adult male with autism. My Autism means that I cannot tolerate people placing demands on me, and I can be sensitive to overly stimulating environments. I have had a long stay in a hospital environment and I have support 24/7. It is so important for my staff team to understand how difficult I find transitions and meeting new people. I need plenty of time and patience to adapt and build relationships with people.

You will contribute and work towards a psychologically safe environment for me, yourself, and your colleagues. You will be able to approach each day with a fresh, positive outlook. I require consistent support from a team I trust and feel safe with, so you must be committed and reliable.

You will be supporting them to work towards person-centered outcomes, which to them is to feel safe to live the life they choose, with no pressure and no demands.

The property is a single occupancy flat within a block within the community, for a person with Autism and Mental Health support needs. They are quite an able person who enjoys walking and visiting the local community, especially the local cafés. Regular buses link Woodseats to all other areas of Sheffield, which has many cafés and cultures to explore and find a place to belong.

We are looking for a team of multi-skilled Advanced Support Workers who have significant experience of delivering support underpinned by Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) principles. You will be required to provide trauma-informed support that follows structured clinical guidance, building on what currently works well for them. Experience of supporting a person with Autism and Mental Health conditions would be advantageous.

Shifts and availability:

We are looking for a mixed team of people who are flexible to work 2:1 shifts 24/7, including through the night on a rota basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced support worker to step up. You will support adults with learning disabilities and autism, who have complex needs, to lead the best life possible.

The ideal candidate will have a Level 3 in Social Care and strong experience in mental health, autism and sensory communication, physical health and PBS. If you do not have a qualification, you will need to have experience in social care. You will know how to connect with people and be passionate about supporting people to live independently. You will also be a brilliant mentor and share your skills and experiences with your colleagues.

We will develop your talents with a range of specialist training, including the opportunity to learn Positive Behaviour Support methods, Makaton and the Picture Exchange System. During recruitment, you will meet the people we support in their home. This will allow you to see their wonderful personalities first-hand and fully understand the level of support that they require.

Naturally, it is important too that you share our company values - We Include; We Deliver; We Aspire; We Respect; We Enable, which are at the heart of everything we do and ensure that we deliver high quality, consistent care and support.

People's values are important to us, so we look for people with:

  • Patience
  • Empathy, compassion and sensitivity to others
  • A strong work ethic
  • Reliability
  • Honesty
  • Determination
  • A problem solver
  • Resilience
