About the Role
The purpose is to provide clinical leadership and support to the Chief Medical Officer in overseeing the Dermatology Service across CHEC, including providing perspectives improving clinical pathways and programmes that deliver improvements in quality and patient care. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operational performance and strategic development of the service. This will include accountability for high quality patient care, patient safety, clinical quality and governance, the delivery of agreed performance and financial objectives, and ensuring that the service operates with the needs of patients as its highest priority.
The role holder will also be responsible for undertaking direct clinical work in the dermatology service by providing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients within the dermatology pathway.
We are looking for someone who can:
- Use the resources of the service to deliver the activity, quality and financial targets agreed with the CMO, and in line with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and in partnership with operational teams.
- Review existing practices and ensure that continuous improvement, which considers models of best practice and best use of resources, are incorporated into plans.
- Work closely with operational teams and the CMO to ensure delivery plans are compatible, that activities across the service are appropriately coordinated and integrated, and that opportunities for more efficient and effective ways of working are fully realised.
- Support clinical teams and managers to deliver service improvement projects.
- Constantly review the performance of the service and ensure that it meets all service delivery targets.
- Actively explore and implement opportunities for cost improvement.
- Lead on the development of the research and audit strategies and implementation plans within the dermatology services.
- Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients within the Dermatology pathway.
- Conduct thorough pre-procedure assessments and obtain informed consent from patients when Minor Surgery is performed.
- Interpret findings accurately and provide timely feedback to patients, referring physicians and healthcare teams as required.
- Apply highly developed clinical knowledge to independently assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatments and interventions for patients referred for dermatology, and related services.
- Ensure safe and appropriate use of specialist equipment.
- Use extensive advanced theoretical knowledge and practical expertise across Dermatology; including clinical and research developments, to deliver an excellent quality of evidence based specialised patient care.
- Autonomously provide physical clinical examinations, decision making for clinical patient situations based on the analysis, interpretation, and comparison of a range of options.
- Make autonomous diagnostic and treatment decisions based on the clinical and histological findings or other investigations.
- Promote advanced specialist knowledge and skills within the dermatology multidisciplinary team.
- Use advanced clinical skills and autonomous judgment to prescribe medication for patients following interpretation of clinical findings and investigations across several broad and varied clinical fields.
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Full GMC Registration, with licence to practice.
- Specialist registration in Dermatology.
- Extensive experience as a Consultant Dermatologist.
- Strong strategic thinking and planning skills, with the ability to develop and implement clinical strategies in line with organisational objectives.
- Experience in service improvement.
- Demonstrated expertise in the diagnosis and management of dermatology conditions.
- Proven leadership experience within a healthcare setting, with a track record of successfully leading and managing teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels, including clinicians, management, and patients.
