Community Energy England (CEE) is a national organisation dedicated to supporting the community energy sector in England. The Board seeks a volunteer Chair to provide strategic leadership over a three‑year term.
Time Commitment
The Chair will commit approximately two days per month, including board meetings, preparatory work with the Chief Executive, and occasional high‑level events. The role includes attending the annual strategy development day.
Responsibilities
- Leadership and Governance: Guide the board, ensure adherence to the Companies Act, Articles of Association, and mission.
- Board Management: Foster a collegial environment, facilitate productive meetings, lead agenda setting.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent CEE at key external events, build relationships with members, partners, funders, and policymakers.
- Strategic Planning: Partner with the executive team to develop and monitor strategic plans.
- Support to Executive Team: Advise the Chief Executive, undertake annual and mid‑year reviews.
- Board Development: Assist with recruitment, development, and annual appraisal of board members.
Person Specification
- Experience as Chair or board member of a non‑profit organisation.
- Commitment and experience in community energy projects; recognised expertise preferred.
- Knowledge of relevant policy and regulatory issues for community energy.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, including consensus building.
- Confidence in public speaking and representing CEE.
- Awareness of CEE’s objectives and responsibilities.
Remuneration and Benefits
Any travel and reasonable expenses are reimbursed. Where finances permit, directors receive annual remuneration to enable broader participation.
