We are looking for a carer for our 15-year-old son who is very happy and sociable. He uses a full-time wheelchair, has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and complex epilepsy. He cannot talk but communicates with vocalisations, facial expressions, eye-gaze, eye-pointing and hand movements. He needs one‑to‑one support to play, learn and interact with his younger sisters and requires overnight care. Training can be provided for the right candidate.

We are a family of five – mum, dad, son, and two younger sisters. We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and patient support worker who can work on their own initiative. This vacancy is primarily to support our son to play and participate in activities and meet his care needs overnight.

Responsibilities
  • Complex moving and handling, including hoisting and safe positioning.
  • Use of wheelchair and specialist equipment.
  • Personal care, including hygiene and oral care.
  • Continence care, including pad changes.
  • PEG feeding and hydration management in line with training and care plans.
  • Monitoring for seizure activity and following the epilepsy care plan.
  • Pain monitoring and comfort measures.
  • Skin integrity management, including repositioning and pressure care.
  • Administering of medication.

The following task is undertaken by Jacob’s parents: Administration of rescue epilepsy medication.

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Care experience is required but full training will be provided.
  • We are looking for someone with a bubbly and happy personality to support our son at home and out and about.
  • Previous experience of working with disabled people/children, specifically play and SEN, is beneficial but not essential; training will be provided.
  • The right personality, a can‑do attitude and someone friendly, caring and compassionate whom our son would feel very comfortable with is most important.
  • Reliable, compassionate and positive with a can‑do attitude.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
  • Experience working waking nights.
Working Hours

We have two positions available: waking nights, and weekdays/weekends.

  • Waking nights: Term Time – Monday 22:00–07:30; Wednesday 22:00–07:30; Thursday 22:00–07:30; Friday 22:30–08:30. Total hours per week: 38.5. School Holidays – Monday to Friday 22:30–08:30. Total hours per week: 50.
  • Weekdays (Term Time): Monday 16:30–20:30; Wednesday 16:30–20:30; Thursday 16:30–20:30. Not necessarily one carer covering all shifts.
  • Weekends: One carer, two eight-hour shifts a month; days will vary. Total hours per week: 12–20. School Holidays: Weekdays – at least two eight-hour shifts a week; weekends – two eight-hour shifts a month. Total hours per week: 16–24.
Rates of Pay

Monday to Sunday days: £16.00 per hour. Monday to Sunday waking nights: £18.00 per hour.
