About the Role
The Family Safeguarding Team at Swindon Borough Council is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Social Worker to undertake specialist parenting assessments, with a primary focus on pre-birth assessments. This role is critical in informing care planning for unborn babies and ensuring that appropriate safeguarding measures and support arrangements are in place prior to birth. The successful candidate will complete comprehensive, evidence-based, and outcome-focused parenting assessments that identify strengths, risks, and support needs, enabling informed decision-making and effective planning for children and families. The postholder will work closely alongside case-holding social workers, contributing specialist assessment expertise while ensuring that the child's welfare and safety remain central to all practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete high-quality pre-birth parenting assessments within agreed timescales.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments of parenting capacity, family functioning, strengths, risks, and protective factors.
- Provide clear analysis and evidence-based recommendations to inform care planning and decision-making for unborn babies and their families.
- Work collaboratively with case-holding social workers, multi-agency partners, and families throughout the assessment process.
- Prepare detailed reports for child protection conferences, legal proceedings, and other statutory processes where required.
- Ensure all assessments are child-focused, outcome-driven, and aligned with current legislation, statutory guidance, and best practice.
- Contribute to safeguarding plans that promote the safety and wellbeing of children from birth onwards.
