This role involves leading high-level safeguarding interventions and providing expert support to families with children aged 0-18. You will manage complex cases, mentor staff, and ensure statutory requirements are met to provide a safe environment for Walsall’s most vulnerable young people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, comprehensive casework for a caseload of children and young people.
  • Lead on complex safeguarding investigations, ensuring all conclusions are evidenced and action plans are realistic.
  • Prepare and submit expert written reports, including statements and care plans for court proceedings.
  • Proactively work in partnership with external agencies, parents, and carers.
  • Attend conferences, reviews, and court hearings, presenting the Council’s plans with professionalism.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide guidance and support to Social Workers and Family Support Workers within the team structure.
  • Participate in regular reflective supervision to maintain high professional standards.
  • Contribute to the identification of team development needs and service plan objectives.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records using integrated children's systems.

Requirements

  • Experience: Significant post-qualifying experience in a statutory children’s safeguarding setting.
  • Qualifications: Recognized social work qualification and current registration with Social Work England.
  • Skills: Advanced knowledge of child protection procedures, relevant legislation, and practice methods.
  • Mobility: A current driving license is essential for travel to various locations and children's homes.

Working Pattern

We offer hybrid working arrangements, with a requirement to be in the office 3 days per week. You must also be available to respond to emergencies and conduct site visits as required by your caseload.
